Why salvation??

Many a times a young man or woman are faced with one of the most important questions in their lives, a turning point available when one is at their worst off or maybe just a desire to be something more than themselves, to have a better understanding of who we are and why we actually exist.

By now you already guessed what Question I am talking about. It’s not actually a question but it’s a decision which we all have to face at one point in our lives, an inevitable reality. This entails giving ones live to Christ, dedicating their entire livelihood to God and all they are and have. This is what SALVATION is!!

So one may ask, what is salvation and why do I need it? What is it that I need saving from? And what happens if I don’t accept it? These are bold questions that everyone knows the answer to, or have an idea but most have corrupted the truth in themselves (knowingly or unknowingly) … “they exchange the truth for a lie…”

Salvation comes from the word ‘save’ whose lexical definition is “To rescue from harm, danger, or loss” or “To keep in a safe condition.” So it’s always a dilemma of sorts to see a bunch of people who look healthy and almost scarless confessing and testifying that someone named Jesus saved them from the Jaws of Death, an eternal death! It is incredulous especially if the person telling you this has never had a near death experience; unless you get to hear the full story. Let me try and break it down for you.

I believe that my existence is not an accident or a mere decision by my parents to sire an extra child in their family, nor is it merely the fusion of spermatozoon and an ovum as biology would have me believe. I believe that I came into existence to serve a particular purpose and to occupy a certain ecological niche that would have remained null and void if I did not exist. This might seem selfish and egotistic but I this is a truth that every human being appreciates within themselves and that’s why every human being strives to stand out in all or just one particular activity.

Question is, who gave you this purpose and how do you determine what your purpose is. God gave you this purpose, and therefore only He knows and therefore only He can accurately determine what He wills you to do.

If you are following my argument then you probably have this question, what’s He waiting for, why not just impose His will upon us, we are His creation and therefore He can do with us anything He wills! Yeah He can, but, being our Creator, He loves every creation so dearly and He wills that we as His creation should retaliate this Love. That is why He does not impose Himself upon us but wills that we should go to Him, as a child would joy with their parents.

But alas! Him being the Perfect Creator that He is, He cannot let Injustice and that’s why He came up with a sentence, a way of providing accountability for His creation, that is, a way of punishing misdeeds of His creations, though He loves them so much. Similarly, He who cannot impose Himself on anyone gives us a chance to demonstrate our devotion and believe in Him on Earth and are ushered into His rest after serving their purpose faithfully.

So now we know that there is a place of retribution, where all our deeds are accounted for. The Hot seat, if I may.  Though the judge is our creator and He loves us so much, our deeds must face justice otherwise He can be termed as an unjust and unfair being.

It’s all good up to here; problems begin when we consider Humans. No one can claim they have lived a perfect life, without having crossed or messed up in one way or another. In fact the bible says that “No one is righteous, no not one,” and in another, “if we claim to be without sin we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us…” in fact if we live according to our own self, we do not please God, in fact we cannot please Him. (Romans 8:8)

So we find ourselves in between a Rock and Hard place, we cannot please God, and since we cannot please Him, our own actions condemn us to retribution in such a way that there is no escape. That is a scary thought indeed.

Luckily for Us, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Begotten son that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16. One of the most known verses in the Bible (the most read book in the world), testifies that God loves us so much that He cannot leave us in such a state of hopeless without coming to our rescue, as such, He sends His only begotten son to come and rescue us from ourselves. But there is a condition, you have to believe! (Why, because as I already stated He cannot impose Himself upon us, we have to willingly go to Him).

Hence, in conclusion, what I am trying to say is that as a Human being, you have standards to meet and ordinances to adhere to, but due to our carnality and human inadequacies we cannot meet these limits and the standards set are too high for us, not to mention the adversities of an entire spiritual kingdom (kingdom of evil) setting out to fight against us, it’s impossible for us to save ourselves. As such, we are all liable to facing retribution and judgment as we deserve, as it has been set out for us. Our Creator, Yahweh, devised a plan for us to be saved from the impending doom by giving Himself to partake of the punishment that we ourselves should have had. He took it upon Himself so that we do not have to endure it if only we believe in Him and accept that He leads us to living as He willed when He was creating us, such that living right is not a struggle but a reality!

And this is the reality that Christians live in, “there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus…” I am a saint because my savior rescued me from sin and death, and took upon Himself the punishment that should have befallen me.
